All Peaches! One Company's Testimony Competing in Op Feed

Another Operation Feed is complete! With a little friendly competition, 106 local businesses and organizations became apart of the efforts of the Mid-South Food Bank to feed those in need through its annual summer donation drive contest.

For several years, Eyewear Gallery has been an East Memphis drop-off point for donations to Mid-South Food Bank. The outpouring of food donations the past few years have been very successful.

This year, Eyewear decided to take the Operation Feed challenge! Employees felt that helping people have healthy vision was a good fit with collecting food to benefit the entire body and especially the eyes.

Since Operation Feed started May 15 through July 28, the donations from the community has been tremendous. Operation Feed brought many people together for a good cause - helping feed our hungry neighbors - and it was very exciting at Eyewear to implement strategies that would yield more donations as Op Feed progressed.

Our efforts resulted in donations worth $182 and 464 lbs of food. Combined, they generated 933 meals!

Some stories that warmed our hearts in the process:

●     One woman donates food weekly straight from her grocery store

●     Another gentleman had a party on July 4th and had his guests bring a can of food.

●     Last but not least is “Operation Peaches”

In a collaborative effort with Jones Orchard and a fellowship group Eyewear Gallery were able to make an enormous growth in donations. A gentleman from Jones Orchard called to make sure we were a drop off location for Mid-South Food Bank. We immediately said yes and about five hours later, a gentleman walks in and says we have an order of 70 peaches. YES peaches, but little did we know it was 70 crates of FRESH PEACHES!

We were so ecstatic, but concerned as to how we could get it to Mid-South Food Bank on Saturday when they’re closed. We ended up sharing with the neighboring businesses, our families and friends. One staff member brought it to church and welcomed any donations for Operation Feed. She raised almost  $100 in donations. It has been a successful, educational and fun challenge for our office and staff.

Op Feed was good fun, and it remains a  great pleasure to be apart of this outpouring of generosity and hear about the genersosity of people in the Memphis area wanting to fight food insecurity. There are many stories showing the generosity of people. We want to thank Mid South Food Bank for getting the Memphis community involved. We appreciate the opportunity to participate with Operation Feed and Mid South Food Bank!
