MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Neighbors of the Ruth Tate Senior Center in South Memphis gathered to receive fresh produce distributed by one of Mid-South Food Bank’s partner agencies. R.D. Miller and Mack Hill were standing outside of their cars, waiting as volunteers assembled bags for them to take home.

Your generous gifts help make sure the Nutrition on Wheels program, or NOW, can safely connect neighbors facing hunger with the nutritious food every person needs to thrive.

“It helps us avoid crowds, and it makes food more accessible to us,” R.D. says of the program.
He and his friend, Mack, visit the NOW distribution at Ruth Tate Senior Center near their homes in South Memphis bi-weekly. R.D. and Mack don’t just receive food to fill their own kitchens — they collect groceries for their neighbors who have trouble securing transportation.
Mack picks up healthy fresh produce, lean meat and other items for a friend who has a heart condition and can’t leave the house often.
“I give [food] to folks who I know need it...people who can’t get out,” he says.
Options for fresh produce in South Memphis are very slim. R.D. told us he also shares the fresh produce he receives through the NOW program with his neighbor’s family.
Thank you for your generosity that shares hope in the form of healthy food with our neighbors facing hunger!
With your help, we’re bringing fresh fruit and vegetables to those that need them most.
