Food Pantry in Memphis Benefits from Freezer Donation From Conagra Brands

The COVID-19 pandemic made it hard for many Mid-South families to purchase enough food. Businesses stepped up to help Mid-South Food Bank eliminate hunger and help those that needed it most. Conagra Brands donated more than 20 freezers to help our Partner Agencies preserve food.

According to Feeding America, 12.1% of individuals living in urban communities face food insecurity. Mid-South Food Bank’s Partner Agency, Greater Harvest, is located within an urban community in Memphis.

Greater Harvest Church in Memphis, Tennessee received one of the freezers. The church’s pantry has been serving the Memphis community for more than three decades. Assistant Director of the pantry, Matilda Cushinberry, said the freezer has helped them in a major way.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Greater Harvest served about 350 families a month. “The freezer has been a life-saver for us,” said Cushinberry. She said it helps them store food safely for their neighbors in need.

Cushinberry said, “We appreciate the donors. They have a major impact on the families in this neighborhood. We’ve had people cry because they were so happy to get the food.”
