ConAgra Foods Foundation Grant Enables Increased Refrigerated Product to Partner Agencies

One in five people in the Mid-South faces hunger. People struggle to get by because of underemployment, stagnant wages and rising costs of living. Feeding America®, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization, and Conagra Brands Foundation have partnered to provide resources to address the areas of greatest need in local Conagra communities.

Mid-South Food Bank, a Feeding America member food bank, is one of 20 food banks that received a capacity building grant, funded by the Conagra Brands Foundation. This significant grant will enable Mid-South Food Bank to provide three refrigerated trailers to three Partner Agencies.

Each trailer will give each Agency expanded capability for storing and transporting up to 2,000 pounds of perishable food such as fresh produce. Funds will also purchase equipment for Mid-South Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry program, which distributed more than five million pounds of food last year.

“Food insecurity affects people from all walks of life, in every county of the United States,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer, president and CEO of Mid-South Food Bank. “Securing generous funding to tackle our biggest barriers to hunger relief, like building agency capacity, can be challenging. The intention, thoughtfulness and flexibility of Conagra Brands Foundation’s grant allows us support more families in the Mid-South by providing food for healthy meals when and where they need them.”

Food insecurity describes a household’s inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. The Feeding America network of food banks annually helps more than 46 million people, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
