Nationwide Insurance Foundation Grants $25,000 to Mid-South Food Bank Funds Come at a Time of Great Need, Says President & CEO

Memphis, TN (May 6, 2013) –Mid-South Food Bank announced a grant of $25,000 from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation.  Mid-South Food Bank is receiving the funds as a part of a $1.25 million donation being made to the national office of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, and 19 of its member food banks in communities where Nationwide associates live and work.    “We are very pleased to receive this donation from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation to support operations,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer, President & CEO of Mid-South Food Bank.  "It will be used to help pay for the fuel cost of getting the food to those in need."   The grant funding comes at a time when food insecurity remains high in the Mid-South, according to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap data.  More than 20 percent of residents of Mid-South Food Bank 31-county service area are food-insecure. That is nearly 407,000 people.    “Nationwide is honored to support Mid-South Food Bank,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Insurance Foundation. “We’re also proud of the Nationwide associates who selflessly give their time and energy in support of hunger-relief initiatives. At Nationwide, we believe that we can do more together than we can alone.”   ###
