Food Repack Program – Volunteers sort and box donated food items at our receiving warehouse.  Children must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by at least one adult for every six children.  Teens may volunteer without a chaperon.  Volunteers must be able to stand for extended periods, be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds, MUST wear closed-toe shoes or boots and be able to stand and to withstand warm temperatures, as our warehouse has fans but is not air-conditioned.  This opportunity is available Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm.  Groups are especially needed the first two weeks of each month to pack food for our Mobile Pantries.  Saturday volunteer opportunities are available as needed for groups of 30 or more, from 9 am until 12 pm.  Saturdays fill up quickly.  Requests should be made several weeks in advance.

Food Bank Pantry – Volunteers age 15 and older clean and stock shelves and organize the pantry where our agencies come to shop for fresh produce, frozen and refrigerated foods, bread and small quantity items.  This opportunity is available Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm as needed.  Group size cannot exceed 15.

Food for Kids BackPack Program – Volunteers age 15 and older fill bags with wholesome food for children to take home on the weekends.  Space is limited so groups of no more than 15 are requested.  This opportunity is available Monday - Thursday, from 9 am until 11 am.

Kids Cafe -Volunteers, 15 and older, are needed to serve meals to children, to help teach nutritional classes or lead activities.  Three volunteer sites: Buckman Boys & Girls Club, Girls Inc., 686 N. 7th St., Goodwill Boys & Girls Club, 990 College Park.  Each site volunteer time is 1.5 -- 2 hours.  Call 901-527-0841 for specific dates and times.

Office Volunteers – Ongoing.  Volunteers age 15 and older help with mailings, filing, data entry, shredding and other general office duties.  This opportunity is available as needed. NOTE: From October through December, we have increased need for office volunteers!  Short shifts available!

Special Events -- Mid-South Food Bank has special events all year long.  Call 901-527-0841 about upcoming events.

We appreciate our volunteers and hope you will consider helping out.  Please note, however, that Mid-South Food Bank does not offer volunteer opportunities on Friday, Saturday (except by special arrangement) or Sunday, and we do not have volunteer opportunities after 4:00 p.m., except for Kids Cafe.  Volunteer opportunities are not available on standard holidays or during our inventory shut-down week: December 27 - 31, 2010.
